Cheryl Mathews Lacey

Cheryl Lacey is fully aware that there are many types of working moms, and that she is the type that happens to be married to a pastor. Mrs. Lacey has always been a working woman. She is a broker-turned minister-turned student-turned Risk Manager. She is currently the Director, Risk Management and Insurance for one of the largest private media companies in the world. She knows that her resume is unique, but it barely scratches the surface of who she is.

Cheryl Mathews, the youngest of 5 children, was born in Memphis and raised in the Bronx. Cheryl loved school and graduated high school at the age of sixteen. She is a graduate of Howard University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) and immediately went to work for one of the largest private brokerage firms. It was during this time that she realized that God had a purpose for her life.

Because of her desire to learn, she decided to go to seminary so that she could be as prepared as possible for God’s assignment. Minister Lacey received her Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Virginia Union University, where she graduated top of her class.

In 1991 Cheryl arrived at Grace Baptist Church, looking for a place to worship and what she found was much more. Cheryl Mathews met Minister Adolphus Lacey while he was visiting Grace. They soon married and have two children, who are the focus of their lives. Her articulate, powerful voice softens when she mentions Cameryn Alexandra (Cammi) and Adolphus Matthew (Matt).

In 2005 Reverend Lacey was called to pastor the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church (MOBC) and Sis. Cheryl quickly made her mark. Apart from being an active member of MOBC, Mrs. Lacey sees the importance of helping others. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and Jack & Jill of America.

Although she spends a lot of time benefiting the lives of others, her favorite activity is spending time with her family. Minister Cheryl’s reach has expanded beyond her family. She touches the lives of everyone who has the sheer privilege of knowing her.

Cheryl tries to live life to have no regrets. Not that she has done things she wishes she had not done; but, she would not change her mistakes because she is fully aware that they make her the person that she is and the person that God has, yet, for her to become.
